Punta Cana

We got back last Sunday night from a 4 night vacation in Punta Cana.  It went wayyy too fast.  It was like a blink of an eye and we were both back at our desk working Monday morning.  We stayed at Secrets Royal Beach and it was exactly what we thought it would be.  It is an adult only all inclusive.  The weather was perfect; sunny and at least 80 degree everyday.  The beach was really beautiful and the property was well taken care of.  I think the only thing we would have changed or didn't like was the food. Since it is an all inclusive I think they focus more on quantity rather than quality. We have been trying to eat healthy lately and they really didn't have very many healthy options there.

We didn't get vary many good pictures, especially of the two of us, but here are the ones we did get.

It's so sad that the holidays are now over and we don't have much time off on the schedule yet!  Guess that means we need to get to planning the next vacation!  Have you good holiday week and a great NYE!

Last week feels like a long time ago. I was able to fit in 20 miles and a few yoga classes and that's about it for the week.

Pretty weak week in terms of workouts.  My December term class is taking up a lot of my time and I just can't wait to be done with it.  I'm hoping recording my weekly workouts will keep me more accountable so why wait until 2016 to get started!

I'm working on a weekend recap, but our weekend wasn't too exciting since I spend most of it writing my final paper!  We have a few showings for our apartment tonight and I wish I had more time to clean it, but oh well, hopefully we find a renter so that we can finalize when we are moving. So glad Monday is almost over and only 1 day of work left until we are laying on the beach,

Life Lately

Well the next few months are going to be a whirlwind. So I thought I'd catch you all up on the latest!
  • We are moving. Don't know when or how, but it's happening.  We are moving out to the suburbs.  Although it will be sad to leave the city and an apartment we have grown so comfortable in, it will be so nice to have more space (we will probably be moving into a two bedroom rather than a one bedroom like we have now). It will also be fun to change up our decor.  We haven't really changed much in the almost 3 years that we have been at our place so it will be nice to freshen things up.  The building we are looking at in the suburbs has floor to ceiling windows in the living room so I'm hoping we get on a high floor, facing south and can get lots of light.
  • I'm taking an accelerated MBA class this month called Leadership in Organizations.  It's half online and half in class.  The last class is tonight which will be a relief, but I somehow have to write a 10-20 page paper about myself before we leave next Wednesday. Yay :) Overall it was a really interested class with a lot of group and class discussions, but as expected a lot crammed into an already hectic month!
  • The overplanner that I am is already figuring out what I'm going to pack for Punta Cana next week. I'm thinking lots of hats, no blow dryer, minimal make up, swimsuits, and sundresses. I always seem to stress over what to pack and end up overpacking (go figure), but this time I'm hoping I plan ahead enough and pack just right. Lucky for me there isn't many beach clothes out in stores right now so I'm not tempting to buy anything new for the trip.

We are so close to Friday at this point and I can smell the weekend!  We have a wedding this weekend and I'm hoping to finish that 10-20 page paper.  Wish me luck!

Loving Lately

Happy Wednesday! I hate to say it, but I can't believe we aren't closer to the weekend at this point. I think I'm just extra exciting about leaving next Wednesday that the next week is going to move like molasses. I don't have a full on Christmas list, but thought I'd post a few things I'm loving lately..

I am loving this dress and especially the price.  I love that is has sleeves so it could be good for a winter holiday party.  Or a spring wedding.

35 Lessons - I love lists like this.  It really makes me reflect on my own life and what I have learned.

As soon as my face wash, cleansers run out, I'll be checking out this lovely "Face Collection".  I'm dying to check it out. I mentioned this company yesterday in my new years resolution post so why not get a head start on my resolutions?!

So I decided I'm going to try Eyebrow/eyelash tinting at Benefits Brow Bar this weekend.  Am I nervous?  Yes, a little bit. But it says the tinting only lasts about a month and I think it's worth trying before my beach vacation next week since I will be sans make up most of the time.  I have the blondest eyebrows and eyelashes so unless they end up tinting them orange then I think it will be an improvement. I'll keep you posted on how it goes..

It's no secret that I love a good backpack.  I have been crushing on this Henri Bendel Jetsetter Backpack.  I can't decide if I like the gray one or the black one better.  I'm trying to refrain from buying any new bags.. at least until after the holidays.. I know, wish me luck.

2016 New Year Resolutions

As 2015 comes to the close, I've starting to think about my new years resolutions for 2016. I'm trying to come up with some reasonable resolutions.  What I'm struggling with is that most of the resolutions that I have come up with are not as measurable as I wish they could be.  So here are the resolutions I am thinking of.  I have the next few weeks to narrow it down and hopefully come up with a way to measure their success.
  • Complain less; see the positive more. It's so easy to spiral into seeing the negative in things and voicing that.  I get that situations are not always going to be rainbows and butterflies, but I think making a conscious effort to be more grateful for everything I've been blessed with in my life can't hurt.
  • Be more present.  Hi my name is Kelsie, and I'm a social media addict.  My latest obsession is instagram.  I just love it.  I love the fitness motivation.  I love the shopping.  I love the decor inspiration.  It's so easy to just hope on the app and the next thing I know a half hour has passed or I've stayed up later than planned because I just get caught up.  But even more importantly when I am with other people, I want to be more present.  Less on my phone and more enjoying my company.
  • Be more organized.  Now, I'm not sure if I am wording this correctly, because it's not necessarily keeping my closet clean, but more being more efficient to make my life easier.  Meal planning.  Setting out my work out clothes the night before. I don't mean to say I don't want my closet clean and no dishes in the sink, but that's not the resolution.  I want to have a plan for my days and have everything ready to make my life easier, smoother, and less stressful.
  • Be more accountable and purposeful in my workouts.  It's been so easy for me to just check the box.  With so much else going on in my life lately, I'm lucky to fit in 30 minutes on the treadmill which means I don't have to think about it.  I can just check the box.  I think in 2016 I'm going to try to use this blog to be more accountable and make my workout more meaningful.  Hopefully by posting my workouts weekly it will make me reflect on what is working for my body and what is enjoyable for my mind.
  • Be more conscious about what I put in, on, and around my body.  Make up, skin care, soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent... Soooo many chemicals. I recently watched a presentation on the company Beauty Counter and it really inspired me to be more aware of the products I'm putting on my skin.  I want to make an effort to slowly more towards chemical free products. I realize that won't happen over night as it would be sooo expensive, but as I use up current products I'd like to stock up on ones that I know won't be harmful to my body.
  • Drink more water and be consistent about taking vitamins.
  • Try meditation.  And by try I mean not just once, but try it consistently for 30 days and see what I really think of it. This year I read a few "self-help" books and it amazed me how many recommended meditation so there has to be some magic to it.  One thing I do know for sure is that it can't hurt. 
Again, I realized this is a pretty extensive list so I am hoping to narrow it down to just a few by the time new years gets here.  Which ones do you like the best?  Anything I should add to the list?

Happy December!

Well what do you know.. It's been another couple of months since my last post.  Things have been busy with weekends filled out family, friends, weddings, celebrations, birthday, thanksgiving.  I'll share a few pictures of all of the big events we've had going on.

We are 10 days away from heading to our vacation in Punta Cana and it still feels so far away.  I definitely need to do some inventory on my beach clothes.  I'm sure I'll be packing nothing but swimsuits and sundresses which will be so nice.  I did a little online shopping to see if I could find any cute suits or sundresses, but most places don't even have anything out yet let alone on sale. That's probably best since I have plenty of beach clothes as it is.

We will come right back from our beach vacation ready to celebrate the holidays.  We skipped out on fully decking out our apartment in Christmas decorations this year.  We are hoping to be moving soon so we avoided it for fear of having to pack up all the decor along with all of our other belongings after the holidays.  Plus with us being gone a lot for the month of December, I think we will just appreciate our parents decorations when we go to visit them for the holidays.

Running, Hiking and Movies

I can't believe it's Monday again. These weekends go so fast lately.  Maybe it's the shorter days or just that I'm more busy lately.  We had another great weekend, the weather in Chicago was beautiful all weekend.

A few highlights lately:

Saturday morning we went to Starved Rock State Park to do some hiking.  We had been talking about doing this for a while, but finally took the leap Saturday morning.  The weather was just perfect and we will up before the sun to get out there before traffic started.  I have no idea how far we hiked, it's not a huge park.  If I had to guess, maybe 5 miles.  It was so peaceful out there and we got started before the crowds came out.  I didn't realize how packed that park can get.  By the time we were almost back to our car there were tons of people headed out on the trails so I'm really glad we went out early.  We stopped in the cute town right by the park for brunch.  We were able to sit outside to eat which I have a feeling won't be the case much longer so I'm glad we got to take advantage of it.

When we got back from the hike, I took a 2 hour nap which I wish I could do every day of my life.  It seems like I am just always tired lately.  Saturday night we ordered Roots Pizza - which I've mentioned a few times before that we love it.  They have gluten free taco pizza. It is not quite as good as Happy Joe's, but a solid substitute.  We headed off to Roosevelt ICON theater to see Black Mass. It is based on a true story of this Irish "gang" (I say gang, because I'm not sure what they technically were) who killed a bunch of people and got away with it.  They finally got caught and all went to prison, but it was a really intense story.

Sunday was well spent - grocery shopping, catching up on work, laundry, cleaning, food prepping.  All around very productive day which will hopefully make for a smooth week.  The weather is slowly getting cooler and cooler and my morning sunshine is getting pushed back later and later.

I've started running again more consistently which has been much needed.  My days seem to be more hectic than ever so it's nice to have a little down time to myself.  Last weekend I met a group girls for a long-ish run of 8 miles.  It was really nice to have someone to run with and get to catch up with at the same time!  It really made me want to sign up for a race soon.  I wish that races weren't so expensive in Chicago.  I'd love to do that hot chocolate 15k, but have a hard time justifying spending $75 to run the same path I can run for free.  Although, it would be nice to have something to train for.  I thought to keep my accountable I'd start listing my workouts here like I used to do when training for the Chicago Marathon. Maybe it will inspire me to sign up for a race!

Fall Feelings

I can't believe it's mid September.  I feel like the summer just got started and it's already the last day of Summer!  Lucky for us in Chicago, we haven't had too much of the cool fall weather yet.  It is starting to feel like fall with all of the football talk and people in boots, though!  I feel like this summer flew by and I'm hoping time will slow down a little bit before the holidays take over.

A few random thoughts since we last talked..

In an effort to make our apartment feel a little more fall, I picked up some new candles.  My current favorite is this brown sugar allspice candle from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Labor day weekend was gorgeous and we got in a quick boat ride before the end of the season.

Since going gluten free we have cut back on our donut intake.  Of course as soon as we go gluten free, we hear about the ever so popular Doughnut Vault and have yet to try it.  I spotted the truck one day at lunch and how cute it that!

I just finished reading the book Everybody Rise by Stephanie Clifford.  I got the recommendation from The Everygirl article and decided to check it out.  It kind of reminds me of the books Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof, all by Emily Griffin.  I think she wrote a few other novels. Everybody Rise is really girly and kind of superficial about a girl in her late 20s living in NYC. I read such a wide variety of books, it's nice to have just an easy read once in while. It was a big more depressing than I was hoping and really did end on a high note, but I would still recommend checking it out!

I've been trying to get on a reading kick and started reading How to be Parisian Whereever You Are by Anne Berest, Audry Diwan, Caroline De Mairgret, & Sophie Mas. It is a really quick read. I am about half way through and just started it a few days ago.  There are a lot of pictures and short stories, but definitely a fun reed.

I have a few more books on my night stand in my line up to read so hopefully I can keep up this pace.

Well I mentioned that post would be random, but it ended up even more random than I expected! I'm hoping to keep up with posting more regularly, but we'll see!

Food Allergy Results

Well this post is coming later than I promised, but it has taken me a few days to digest the results.  Not that they were bad results or that I had my heart set on something else.  It just seems a like life changes a little when you realize what foods your body prefers compared to the foods your body craves.  The best news of it all is that I'm not allergic to peanuts which mean my love for peanut butter will continue indefinitely.  The worse news is that my body is "intolerant" of cocoa and vanilla beans, which means no chocolate or even vanilla. Thankfully, I had a feeling that would happen to so I had beloved froyo right before going to get our results.

The food allergy test tested 184 foods and rated them on a scale of .000-0.500.  Anything above a 0.2 rating is considered an intolerance for your body.  I had about 40 foods out of the 184 that were listed as have an allergic reaction.

Cows Milk
Black-eyed Pea
Poppy Seed
Vanilla Bean

The two that are bold were the 2 that I was most allergic to. I've been trying to digest the list (no pun intended) to figure out what to do about it.  I don't have a strong reaction or at least am not feeling terrible when I eat certain things on this list.  At least I don't notice it so it is hard to get motivated to do a complete elimination for 12 weeks.

The doctor recommended eliminating everything on this list completely for 12 weeks. Looking at the list, this sounds near impossible.  It basically means not eating out at all for the next 12 weeks since most things have garlic, lemon, basil, and other random spices that they may not list all of the ingredients. I'm not sure I could do that for a full 12 weeks, heck I'm not even sure I could last 1 week.  But there are some obvious things on the list that would be easier to eliminate, such as apples, bananas and eggs.  These are things I have been eating daily and would be easier to substitute with something else.

I'll keep you posted if I decide to do anything drastic with the results, but for now, I decided, I'm just going to try to actively avoid anything on this list, but know that when I go out to eat it's going to be somewhat impossible to avoid everything.

My Makeup Routine

I thought I would do a post about my current make up routine.  I have tried a few new things lately, some I'm still deciding on and some has joined in the reins of the regular routine. I'm thinking about doing a separate post on my current skincare routine too! I'll list all of the products in the order I use them.

This is my everyday routine:

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer - I just picked up this from Sephora last weekend, because I had heard some great reviews on it.  I'm still fully deciding what I think of this product and if it will be something that I will repurchase.  Before I started using this I was just using a moisturizer and the concealing I mention below.  I always thought a tinted moisturizer wouldn't provide enough coverage for me, but I was really shocked with how thick this product is.  I thought it would be more runny like a true lotion, but it almost feels as think as my double wear foundation from Estee Lauder.  I'll keep you posted on whether this product joins my regular routine, but for now I'm pretty happy with it. Side note: it does smell a little like sunscreen when I'm putting it on which I'm not exactly a fan of, but I don't think that smell sticks with me all day. The color I'm currently using is called "Nude."

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

bareMinerals bareSkin Perfecting Brush - I just picked up this brush from Sephora last weekend as well.  I use to to apply my tinter Moisturizer and my concealer. I have been looking for a good brush to apply foundation and thought I would give them one a try.  I don't have many other brushes to compare it to, but it seems to do the job and I'm finding that I do like using a brush rather just just using my fingers to blend which is what I used to do.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place flawless wear concealer - Next I apply this concealer just where needed.  Typically under my eyes and on any blemishes. I have been using this concealer for probably close to 10 years.  I am a big fan of Este Lauder and have collected almost the whole Double Wear line.  I really recommend this stuff and it seems to agree with my skin.  I try to go a shade lighter than my skin tone which obviously changes depending on the season.

MAC Prep + Prime Finishing Powder - I've had the product for a while, but just recently started using it again.  I put this on after the liquid moisturizer and concealer to make sure my face is completely dry before I put on any powder, bronzer, or blush.  It is a white powder that just helps keep my powders afterwards for looking too thick in certain locations on my face.  Nothing fancy, but does the trick for me. I'm not a huge MAC fan, but I haven't found a product similar to this anywhere else. I use the same brush to apply this finishing powder as I do my foundation powder.

From top to bottom (all Estee Lauder): Double Wear Mascara, Double Wear Highlighter, Double Wear Concealer

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place Powder - I love this stuff.  I have been a loyal user of this powder for probably 10 years.  It takes away shine, doesn't have too much coverage, but definitely evens out my skin tone.  I also throw one of these compacts in my purse at all times and even keep one in my gym bag.  If it's just a lazy day at home I may even just use this without anything under it and feel like it gives me enough coverage without looking like too much.

Estee Lauder Powder Foundation Brush - I usually use this brush to apply the double wear powder foundation.  I've had it for a few years now and have found it really holds up well.

Benefit Hoola Matte Brozer - I just started using this bronzer in the last year.  I was always a loyal Estee Lauder Bronzer user, but was looking for something a little more matte for everyday use.  I had read a bunch of reviews on this stuff and it seemed to keep popping up everywhere so I thought I'd give it a try.  I'm really impressed. It is completely matte with no sparkle to it so I think like it's much more appropriate for the everyday use.

MAC Longwear Blush - I have had this blush for so long I can't believe I'm not even close to using it all.  I'm not a big blush wearer, but like to put just a little dot on everyday.  The color I wear is "Whole Lotta Love"  It's very pink so it doesn't take much for it to be noticeable.

Estee Lauder Blush Brush - I use this brush to apply the blush.  Nothing fancy and usually just a dot on each cheek.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Brow Lift Duo - I wasn't kidding when I said I was loyal to Estee Lauder's double wear line. I love this stuff.  I usually use this pencil after I fill them in mostly with a powder and small brow brush, but they no longer carry the brow powder I use so I don't know what I'm going to do once it's gone.  It will be a sad day, because I don't think just this pencil will work for me.  I have super light eyebrows so I need all the help I can get in this area.

Shiseido "The Makeup" Eyelash Curler - I picked this up a few years ago.  I stopped into the make up department and asked which eyelash curler was the best and was lead to this curler.  I can't say one way or another as to if I love this product, because I really don't have much to compare it to, but I think it does the job.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-smudge Lengthening Mascara - For as long as I can remember I've been wearing this mascara.  It probably dates back all the way to middle school.  I don't know how I became so brand loyal to Estee Lauder, but it's just been working for me.  I love the mascara and I think the main reason is because I've found it actually stays on my little lashes all day.  I never get the raccoon eyes with it slowly coming off all day.  I also love how easy it is too remove even though it is double wear. I don't have to spend 5 minutes every night and a box full of remover wipes just to get it off.  It literally comes off in clumps rather than becoming liquid again, if that makes sense?  The only con I've found is that it's not a dramatic mascara; I typically layer this with another mascara if I'm looking for a more fancy look.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil - I typically throw on a little of this lip color since it's so easy for everyday.  At work during the week I'm not big on wearing lip color since I'm typically drinking something (tea, water, latte, green juice) almost all day long so without getting it all over all of my glasses, it's just easier not to wear anything.

On tray: Hoola Bronzer, Este Lauder Brow Powder, Estee Lauder Bronzer, Estee Lauder Powder Foundation, MAC Blush, Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation

Now I'll add a few things here that I use on the weekends or when I'm getting a little more fancy:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Makeup - I love this stuff.  Another product I have been using for as long as I can remember.  This is a little more full coverage than I prefer to go on a typical day, but I love it for special occasions. It is a full coverage, but still feels very lightweight on my skin.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow Highlighter - This product I love to use to highlight my cheeks and cover under eye.  It gives me a little extra glow and it an easy way to contour a little without it being too dramatic.  I usually put this on at the same time as my concealer and use it under the eyes instead of the double wear concealer.

Estee Lauder Bronzer Goddess Powder - I mentioned this product earlier.  It has been a staple in my make up routine for as long as I can remember.  It recently got replaced for the day to day, because it is a big shimmery, at least for the workplace.  I still love to brush on a little somedays if I'm feeling extra pail otherwise I save it for the weekends.  I think it quickly adds some fancy for a look to go from day to night.

Estee Lauder 'Sumptuous Extreme' Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara - Well that's quite a name.  I mentioned earlier that sometimes I like the layer other mascaras with my usually zero smudge mascara and this is it.  It definitely has a drama factor and quickly doubles the size of my lashes.  I love this stuff and wish it was a longer wear mascara.  If I know I'm going to be wearing it all day I typically skip this stuff, because it doesn't seems to have the long wear that I'm used to.  It also is more labor intensive to remove at the end of the night.

Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette - This is the very original naked palette. I haven't tried the naked palette 2, 3 nor the smoky eye. I've had this palette since it first came out.  I'm not a big eye shadow wearer, hence why I still have the palette and it hasn't run out yet.  But I love to use a little of this on my eye lids if I'm going somewhere extra fancy like a wedding.  I love that's it's not bold.

You would think from this post that I would be sponsored my Estee Lauder.  I've been quite the loyal customer for so long.  It was really stepping out of the box for me to try the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.  Hopefully this will spark me to branch out and try some other make up lines too. Any suggestions? Should I do a post on my skincare routine too?!

Side note: The tray that make up is on is from West Elm and we have the matching tooth brush holder and I love it.

Anyway, enough make up talk.  It's Friday and I'm ready for the weekend.  We don't have any big plans on the agenda and there is supposed to be some crappy weather in Chicago so I'm sure it'll be a relaxing weekend.  The cleaning person came this morning so it'll be nice to enjoy my freshly clean apartment!  I'll keep you posted on our allergy results we get back tomorrow.  Have a great weekend!

Random Thursday Thoughts

Is it just me or has this week been moving at a snails pace? I don't know what it is, but I'm extra anxious for the weekend.  I thought I'd share a few thoughts for this gloomy Chicago Thursday.  Fair warning, this is a very random post so I may jump around a little more than usual.

1. Yesterday I went a little overboard with my workouts. I went for a quick run in the morning, only 3 miles and then did two workout classes last night.  Let's just say I woke up this morning TIRED! I'm pretty much just all over sore right now. I did my usual Body 360 class at my gym which is my favorite class and then I headed over to the Bucktown Daily Method to do their free Planks in the Park class with some friends!  It was a little chilly for an August night in Chicago, but we warmed up really quickly once class got started.  I don't spend much time in the Bucktown area and was amazed at all of the shopping up there; that's going to have to be added to my list to check out more often.  I'm not much of a "barre class" connoisseur, but that class was harder than I thought it was going to be.  I wish I had a studio closer to me in the West Loop, because I might check it out more often if that were the case.

After class we checked out Goddess and the Grocer which had a great salad bar.  Obviously I ate imy whole salad before I even had a chance to get a photo.  It was honestly delicious, but I think I'm spoiled by checking on Whole Foods on a daily basis.

2. I was supposed to have a cleaning person coming this morning, but she cancelled on me last minute.  We have never had a cleaning person come to our apartment in the almost 2.5 years we have lived there so I was really excited to finally get a really deep clean.  Hopefully I can get her to reschedule soon, because I was like a kid on Christmas looking forward to that.

3. We are getting our food allergy test results back on Saturday and I'm getting very anxious.  The test we did tests 184 food allergy's and rates them on a scale of 1-5 for how intolerant our body is of that food. It's going to be very interesting what it comes back with; I'll make sure to share my results! Worst case scenario would be that I'm not allergic to anything and this is as good as I'm going to feel ever! Ha!

4. We are still on our juicing kick, but have found that we don't have the right glasses to house all of our juice so we bought these mason jar's from Target in hopes that it will make our juicing lives easier, but they're pretty cute too with the monograms on them.

5. I don't think I've mentioned this, but I bought the Apple Watch a few months back and to give you a quick review: I LOVE IT.  I get asked all the time what I think of it and I tell everyone how much I love it.  I use it quite a bit to track my fitness and I've found it to be really accurate (as if I would expect anything less from Apple). I love the alerts it gives me and being able to answer a phone call straight from my wrist is really impressive.  Apparently they are coming out with some updates for it this fall so I'm really excited to see how those go.

6. I am still eating gluten free. I think it's been 6 weeks now. I haven't noticed a huge different except maybe my skin being more clear.  We started juicing right around the same time so it could easily be from all of the extra veggies I've been having through the juice as well.  Honestly, the biggest thing I miss is eating a sandwich. It's pretty much daily now that I crave a good sandwich.  We have been finding some good gluten free pizza so I really don't miss pizza since we still eat that regularly.

Weekend Recap

It was quite the relaxing weekend for us.  Friday night I hit the gym straight from work.  I got in 4 miles on the treadmill and a 45 minute class called total body blast.  It was a different instructor than I usually take so the format wasn't what I am used to, but either way great workout.  That has to be a record for me for a Friday night.  Usually I take my Friday's off, but my Thursday was weak so I thought I could use one more good sweat before the week was over.  Friday night we stayed in and watched stand up comedy on Netflix. Netflix has a lot of great comedy shows and they always seem to keep in updated.

Saturday morning was walked to our favorite West Loop breakfast place, Wishbone.  It was a gorgeous day and we got to sit out on their patio so that was perfect.  There happened to be an art show right outside Wishbone so we checked that out afterwards too.  A lot of really cool art, but a bit out of our price range, at least for now.  There was a really cool place called Then & Now which merged together prints for 1905 and then the same Chicago location in 2014; I think that one was my favorite.  We ran a bunch of errands all day on Saturday which was really productive.  Dentist, West Elm, Sephora, Banana, Nordstroms, Froyo, Anthopology, JCrew, Target, Nordstrom Rack -- I think that might be a record for me!  We even ended up going to the grocery store late Saturday night to avoid the crazy crowds that are there are Sundays.  I wasn't kidding when I said we were productive.  We took the bus up to North Ave, because the traffic was just insane that we didn't feel like fighting it all day.

Our Sunday was a much more relaxing day than Saturday.  It was a gloomy morning with some scattered thunderstorms on Sunday morning so it was a good excuse to lay around and relax.  We went on quick run in the afternoon when the sun came out, but otherwise really didn't leave the apartment!  We ordered our favorite Roots Pizza, as we do most Sundays and watched golf and preseason football - I'm surprised I didn't fall asleep.  A Sunday well spent brings a week of content!

Elkhart Lake

A few weekends ago I made the journey up to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for a family reunion.  There were 25 of us in attendance and we took over the Osthoff Resort.  It's a huge resort with lots of things to do.  It's situated right downtown Elkhart Lake which is a small town of less than 1,000 people.  I won't go into too much detail of everything we did, but it included a daily visit to an organic juice bar in town which was amazing, lots of water sports, lots of great food, and even some bowling!

Such a fun weekend and I'm sad it's over.  I don't have any trips planned anytime soon or any planned time off of work so it's hard not having something to look forward to!  Hopefully we'll get something planned soon!

The Weekend of 4 Froyo's

Another successful Chicago summer weekend in the books.  Last week I set some records by making to a class at the gym Monday-Thursday and logging 21 running miles!  Thursday class was called Iron Ride and it was outside on the pool deck- so nice! It was a mix to spinning and strength which was really fun.  I'm not much of a spinner.  It is so hard for me to get my heart rate up when I am on the spin bike.  I feel like I'm much more effective just going outside for a run, but at least I gave it a try!

Friday night I got home from work, put on my PJ's right away and then decided I wanted to get up and walk.  Go figure, I make a few pit stops on my walk to check out the Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale!  The Michigan Ave Nordstrom's store is finally almost done with their renovations and it looks really nice. 

So fancy!  Surprisingly I didn't end up buying anything.  But I did end up stopping for frozen yogurt on my way home. Spoiler: I ended up getting frozen yogurt 4 times this weekend! Talk about a good weekend!  

Saturday we went for a walk around the city and along the riverwalk and of course, make another stop for some frozen yogurt.  We had a doctors appointment that afternoon to get checked for food allergies.  Confession: I've never in my life had blood drawn. I figured better time than ever to check my blood for anything else possible so they ended up taking 3 veils of blood! I cried through the whole thing.. like a baby.  We went to a doctor that had been recommended to us, but I thought he was a little weird so I'm not sure we would go back.  I'm excited to get our results; it should only take a few weeks. They test 184 foods for possible allergies or intolerance's,

Saturday night we went to Nando's Peri Peri on Randolph St.  We went there over the 4th of July and it was really good.  It's nice that it's pretty quick and it wasn't busy since I think they get people their food fast.  Again, it didn't disappoint and I would recommend anyone in the Chicago area to check it out.  And again, we had to end our night with some froyo again!
