Hello from Somoma!

We flew in late last night to San Francisco! We landed around 10:30 which was 12:30 Chicago time. And it wasn't until around 2 am that we ended up checked into our hotel and sleeping. We were beat!

We went to two wine tastings today! I feel all we did today is drink and eat! I will do a full review of all of the wineries we are checking out this weekend.  So far everything has been so gorgeous and the weather has been perfect. I haven't had a change to run since I have been here.  I am hoping to get a run in tomorrow morning.

Check in later!

The Art of Packing

I am headed off to Sonoma this weekend with all of my immediate family on my mom's side.  So there will be 12 of us! We will be there Wednesday night through Sunday morning and I am going to attempt to pack everything into one carry on.  This will take some serious planning for this constant over packer.

I know I am going to bring lots of dresses, as always and I want to make sure I have something for during the day as well as something for night.  We will also be hiking and I am hoping to get a few runs in. This adds up to quite a bit to fit into one little suitcase. My packing process went like this..

Lay everything out on the bed to see everything I want to bring...

Fold everything to see how much room it will take up...

Realize this is quite a bit to put in one suitcase so I decided rolling was the best technique

Add workout clothes depending on how much room I had left..

Realize I am also going to have to bring a backpack, but pretty proud of my packing technique..
I think for this trip I'm going to have to implement the rolling technique to fit everything into my suitcase.  Luckily, I am not bringing too many shoes since we won't be wearing heels so I will probably stick to flip flops and my running shoes. I am hoping to get a few runs in while I am there, but there is no guarantee that will happen. We will be renting a house for most of the nights we are there so there definitely won't be a gym with a treadmill.  I think the house is out in the country so I'm hoping there are some safe country roads that I can run on.  I'm also not planning on doing a single thing to my hair the entire time we are there.  It will be air dried and curly the entire 6 days we are there.

I'm bringing my iPad so hopefully I will be able to blog a little while I am there!

Weekend Recap

Big highlight of the weekend.  After over 3 years of living in Chicago I am officially a real resident.  I rode the bus for the first time on Friday night. It was easy on me as it literally picked me up from my building and dropped me off at the restaurant!  Even though it was rush hour I still had a seat!

Halsted 8 bus!
I had a girls night Friday night at Stella Barra in Lincoln Park.  I wanted to get in to Summer House, but they were just packed so that wasn't an option.  I had a few friends in from out of town and knew the food at Stella Barra would impress.  I originally went to Stella Barra about 6 months ago with another group of girls and was really impressed.  Very cool atmosphere and the food was delicious!

Atmosphere at Stella Barra - Sorry for the dark picture!
It didn't disappoint.  We started in the brussel sprouts, the chop salad, and the spinach salad and they were all delicious. The brussel sprouts = candy.  Sooo good. We then moved on to the pizzas.  I had to have the one with the fried egg on it.  It was a little more spicy than I remember, but still didn't disappoint.  We also had the eggplant pizza which was a special and the Rossa pizza which was also delicious.  It turns out to be a great choice as we originally wanted to go somewhere that we would be outside, but it ended up being a really muddy night in Chicago so we were happy to be inside.

On the left is the fried egg pizza and on the right is half rossa, half eggplant

Unfortunately, I had to end the night earlier than I would have liked as I had to run 18 miles Saturday morning!!

Saturday morning - my 18 miler happened.  It was pretty uneventful.  I started around 7:15am before it got too hot and rainy.  The lakefront was packed with running groups, I think I was one of the few people actually running all alone.  I didn't mind though, because that meant I got to stop at every water fountain without having to wait :) I was a bad blogger and forgot to take any pictures on my run, but it was really foggy and cloudy.  There was so much moisture in the air that I was drenched after one mile. There were literally people literally ringing out their shirts, because they were soaked!  Only 7 weekend until the marathon! I finished the 18 miles, took a quick ice bath, and off we went to the cubs game!

It was our first cubs game all year, although it didn't last long.  3 inning in and it started to downpour! After over an hour of waiting under cover we decided the rain wasn't going to let up soon so we grabbed a cab and went for sushi!  It was too bad for our friends that came into town, because they didn't get to see much of the game.

It ended up being a low key Saturday night for us - just hanging at a friends on the patio after the rain finally stopped. Consisted of some fun drinking game and being sleeping by 10:30.  My kind of night :)

Rain Rain Go Away

Another rainy day in Chicago.  It's as if August is now rainy season in Chicago.  Not to make excuses, but a run just didn't happen this morning.  I could tell it was raining and I've just been so sleepy lately.  So I slept in and had a nice slow morning getting ready for work knowing full well that my walk to work may be slightly less than torturous.

5:00 rolled around and it was pouring once again.  Just like clockwork the rain knows when rush hour is.  Thank God for hunter boots, because there was some very large puddles. I actually had a massage scheduled for after work today which was nothing less than perfect timing.  My legs needed it. K had got me a gift card to nice spa close to our apartment back in October of 2013. I was saving up for when I really needed it and today was the day.

I thought maybe I would run after my massage.  What a crazy thought :)   And I had the perfect excuse, because one of my BFFFF's stopped over and asked me to be in her wedding!!!  I still can't believe I am old enough to have friends getting married!  It's so fun hearing her wedding plans!  I am already excited for the big day!!

Sunday: 5 miles - PM, 9'05 pace
Monday: 5 miles - AM, 9'40 pace
Tuesday: 8 miles - PM, 9'56
Wednesday: Impromptu rest day
Thursday: [Hopefully run 5 morning miles]
Friday: [Rest day/light lifting]
Saturday: [Big 18 miler!]

Countdown to Chicago Marathon: 53 Days!

Wish me luck on my 18 miler!  We are going to the cubs game after so hopefully I won't be in too much pain!
